In Westbrook, Daniel J. Wellehan, owner of five shoe shops in the area, decided to found his own factory. From the partnership with two local shoe industrialists – William Beaudoin and Joseph Cordeau – Sebago-Moc was born. The name was inspired by the nearby Sebago Lake and the first sailing shoe was made in 1948.
